20250429 Update

Clinton County Severe Weather Blog Update – Tuesday, April 29, 2025 – 4:18 PM

We are not out of the woods yet.

First Round Summary:

The initial wave of storms has been progressing eastward through Clinton County this afternoon. These storms, originating from Indiana, have produced damaging winds and hail, with isolated tornado potential still a concern.

Important Reminder:

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for Clinton County until 12:00 am [updated]. Stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

What’s Next – Round Two Developing:

Attention now shifts to Round Two, which has the potential to be more dangerous.

  • Current satellite imagery shows clearing skies just west of the region, especially across central and southern Indiana. This clearing is promoting destabilization — the cumulus field forming (seen as white speckles) confirms vertical atmospheric development, which is a red flag on days like today.

  • This means recovery is underway, allowing the atmosphere to reload for another severe round.

Expected Timing and Impacts:

  • 5:00 PM–8:00 PM: Scattered severe storms begin to redevelop and drift into the Tri-State region. Southern and central Ohio, including Clinton County, remain at risk.

  • Around 8:00 PM onward: These scattered storms are expected to congeal into a larger system and sweep across southern Ohio, bringing a more organized threat of tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, and frequent lightning.

Primary Hazards:

  • Damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph

  • Hail up to 1.5 inches

  • Tornadoes (greatest threat after 6:00 PM)

  • Cloud-to-ground lightning

What You Should Do Now:

  • Have multiple ways to receive warnings — including weather radio, mobile apps, or wireless emergency alerts.

  • Know where your safe space is — lowest floor, interior room, away from windows.

  • Charge your devices and secure loose outdoor items.

  • Stay tuned — EMA will continue to monitor and issue updates as conditions evolve.

This remains a high-impact weather day for Clinton County. Another update will be issued as Round Two begins to organize. Stay weather-aware.
