Heat & 250th Anniversary

Heat, Holiday Events, and Staying Alert This Week

Clinton County is under a Heat Advisory this week, with hot and humid conditions expected to create an increased risk of heat illness. Very warm overnight temperatures will offer little relief, so heat impacts can build over several days. Anyone spending time outdoors, attending holiday or 250th Anniversary events, working outside, or helping with public safety operations should plan for shade, water, cooling breaks, and reduced activity during the hottest parts of the day.

A Heat Advisory means conditions are dangerous enough that heat-related illness can occur, especially for people who are outdoors too long or do not have access to cooling. For more information about the difference between a Heat Advisory, Extreme Heat Watch, and Extreme Heat Warning, see our previous story: https://www.cc-ema.org/post/heat-alerts-in-clinton-county-warning-watch-or-advisory.

Please check on older adults, young children, neighbors, those with medical needs, and anyone without reliable air conditioning. Never leave children, vulnerable adults, or pets in parked vehicles. If someone becomes confused, faints, stops sweating, or shows signs of serious heat illness, call 911.

A current list of cooling centers is available at https://www.cc-ema.org/cooling. If a local business, church, agency, or organization would like to add a special cooling site for this week, please contact Clinton County EMA at (937) 382-6673 and provide the location, available dates and hours, contact information, and any important details for public use.

Clinton County EMA has activated the Emergency Notice Page for this heat event. Updates can be found at https://www.cc-ema.org/notice.

This is also a busy week for community events and patriotic gatherings. There is no known specific threat to Clinton County events at this time, but everyone should stay aware of their surroundings. If you see something concerning, contact law enforcement. For non-emergency situational awareness reports, there is also a SPOT report option available at https://www.cc-ema.org/spot.

Prepare now, stay cool, and look out for each other.

Plan. Prepare. Protect.
