The NWS weather forecast office in Wilmington has updated its weather briefing page with the potential for SEVERE STORMS TODAY.

Clinton County is rated at SLIGHT risk (2 on a scale of 1 [lowest] to 5 [highest]).

Start time to see storms forming in our area is estimated between 12 Noon and 2 pm today (7 August).

Possible impacts include:

  • Damaging Wind "ELEVATED" (rated 3 out of 5) ... 15-30% chance of severe wind gusts (58 mph or greater) within 25 miles of your location ... scattered power outages, tree and minor structural damage.

  • Hail "LIMITED" (rated 2 out of 5) ... Up to 15% chance of 1" or larger hail within 25 miles of your location ... minor property damage.

  • Tornado "LIMITED" (rated 2 out of 5) ... Up to 5% chance of a tornado within 25 miles of your location ... power outages, tree and structural damage.

NWS messaging (for more details, visit the weather briefing page):

  • Complicated thunderstorm forecast. There may be more than one round of thunderstorms during the day (beyond what is occurring before daybreak), particularly from south central Ohio and northeast Kentucky into southeast Ohio. Time of arrival indicates when initial daytime storms are expected.

  • Damaging straight-line winds are the primary threat. But some storms could produce large hail. A few tornadoes will be possible with the greatest potential being in northeast Kentucky, south central Ohio, and southeast Ohio.

  • Severe weather threat is expected to pass east of the area by late afternoon.

  • While the large scale pattern looks favorable for severe thunderstorms, a number of factors lead to confidence only being medium. Those factors include what effects the pre-dawn storms have on the environment as well as the potential for interactions amongst various thunderstorm clusters through the day.

Recommendations:

  • IF YOU HAVE YET TO HAVE THE "WHAT DO WE DUE DURING A DISASTER" TALK WITH YOUR FAMILY ... have that talk this morning.

  • Review actions listed under keywords SEVERE, TORNADO, and POWER at https://www.cc-ema.org/prepare.

  • Stay Weather Aware!
